Stellenbosch FC's Barker hails qualities of Moon

Stellenbosch FC coach Steve Barker has hailed the qualities of striker Ryan Moon.

The 23-year-old former Kaizer Chiefs and Maritzburg United striker joined the Absa Premiership newboys in August 2019.

He struggled to impose himself in three seasons with Chiefs, netting just six goals and one assist in 46 matches ahead of unsuccessful trials with Hibernian in Scotland and Hungarian team Ujpest FC.

But he has two goals in two matches for Bafana and four already for Stellenbosch, leaving Barker with no doubt over his ability.

The manager told IOL: "Ryan has added huge value to the team. The moment he reached full match fitness he showed what a capable striker he is.

"He's still young, he hasn't got that much experience in terms of matches played, so he's still learning a lot and growing with the game.

"He's got fantastic attributes; there's few players as good as him aerially, he's got a great left boot, and he knows how to score goals. As a character he's out of the top drawer."

Reflecting on his goals for Bafana, against Botswana in Chan qualifiers, Moon said: "Definitely memorable moments to be cherished."

And on his decision to join Stellenbosch, Moon added that he couldn't be happier with where he is in his career at the moment.

"I got the chance to come to the Western Cape and here I am playing for a team I knew was the perfect fit for me in every way.

"It's probably one of the best decisions I made; I'm playing and enjoying myself. People wrote us off as the team to be relegated but here we are in 11th place."
